Our craftsmen have fitted more than 300 solid floors, and every one starts the same way.
A solid wood floor is a fitting you buy once.
Engineered or solid oak boards, fully bonded to a prepared subfloor, or parquet laid block by block. If you are not sure which yours calls for, the survey settles it before anything is ordered.
Which method we use is decided by the subfloor, not by preference. All four are in regular use.
When there is a hard core subfloor like concrete, gluing is the best method to choose. This method decreases chances of floor movement and provides excellent stability.
Ideal for wood subfloors, nailing provides invisible fixing through the grooves. This is the preferred method whenever the subfloor is capable of holding nails.
A meticulous method involving countersinking screws and plugging with dowels. While more time-consuming, this provides extremely secure fixing.
Utilising tongue and groove connections without subfloor attachment. While quick to install, note that these floors can be more prone to movement and sound.

We fit floors across all of Gloucestershire and the surrounding areas, including Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud, Cirencester, Tewkesbury, the Forest of Dean, the Cotswolds and South Gloucestershire. We also work in Wiltshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Bristol, Bath, Somerset and Monmouthshire.
Traditional oak remains the most popular choice, particularly in period properties and Cotswold cottages. Parquet is often favoured in Cheltenham’s Regency properties, while contemporary homes in Gloucester and Stroud frequently choose engineered wood. We source locally where we can and make sure the wood suits the local climate.
We work closely with conservation officers across Gloucestershire and have extensive experience with listed buildings in Tewkesbury, Cirencester and throughout the Cotswolds. Materials are selected to meet local conservation requirements, and we can provide the documentation needed for planning.
